ENFORCER - Live By Fire

Enforcer have been smoking in 2015 with the release of their fourth full-length album From Beyond and now they are ending the year with a ferocious howl releasing their first live CD/DVD package. The DVD was recorded in Tokyo in October 2013 with the CD holding an Athens show from January 2013. The Swedes didn’t stop there, as the Speak The Tongue Of Heathen Gods EP is tacked onto the end featuring two new tracks plus a cover.

The live show was recorded during the band’s 2013 Death By Fire tour and Enforcer keeps the same amount of balled up energy that bursts onto their studio recordings. Frontman Olof Wikstrand keeps the banter to a minimum and let’s the music do the talking. It’s hard not to get revved up by scorchers “Midnight Vice”, “Katana”, Mesmerized By Fire”, and “Crystal Suite” (very cool they included an instrumental into the set). Chants of “Enforcer! Enforcer!” fill the air at the end of the metal barrage and it’s easy to feel the pulsating sounds from the club.

The scintillating treat at the end is the EP and “Speak The Tongue Of Heathen Gods” features a piano intro (!) and has more of a marching, getting ready for battle mentality and is a real gem of a track. “Stellar Plains” is more standard fare with a straight ahead riff, but things take a turn in the solo section which reminds of Metallica’s “Hit The Lights”. The finale is “Tyrants Of Our Generation”. It’s a Frigid Bich cover; I had to look them up because I had no idea who they were (a very obscure ‘80s New York band who never released a full-length album) and the track is a pissed-off attack bordering on thrash metal. Enforcer just knows how to make awesome heavy metal and it’s about time they had a live show documented for release. Headbang away!
