GORGOROTH - Ad Majorem Sathanas Gloriam

Gorgoroth return to the black metal trenches with the one/two punch of ‘Wound Upon Wound’ and ‘Carving A Giant’ both propelled by some militant percussion which perfectly sets up the crashing anarchy of ‘God Seed’ that follows. ‘Sign Of An Open Eye’ subsequently slows things down, death marching its way into the memory banks. And that’s just the first half of this eight track brute of a release. Some thoughtful track sequencing adds to the impact here, creating a well-paced, engaging feel to the malevolence. Gaahl’s unsettling growls/shrieks of vocal disharmony and some cold guitar riffage ensure that Gorgoroth remain solidly entrenched in the underground though. Proudly and loudly. While only lasting 31 minutes, Ad Majorem can be ranked up there with some of the stronger blackened belches excreted this year to date.
