HERMANO - ...Only A Suggestion

With a $350,000 Unida full-length tied up in label wrassles, the First Voice of Stoner Rock John Garcia has poured his efforts into his modest supergroup Hermano and their 28 minute EP, or at eight tracks, an old Kiss or Van Halen album. The sound is predictably in a Kyuss zone, leaning modern and sparse into QOTSA, punky (once) into old Speedealer, nice and riffy and to the point with seven real songs out of the eight tracks. Other members sort Afghan Whigs, Disengage, Black Cat Bone and Supafuzz on their resumes, but the crowning signal is that of Garcia's distinct (though now often copied) voice and choices, the man eminently capable of sounding bluesy and aggressive simultaneously. But hey, the material? No great shakes over other bands of this ilk. Everybody's figured out how to do it.
