Getting a bit hard to tell all these technical death bands apart, no? Italy’s ILLOGICIST are the standard-issue DEATH/ATHEIST-worshipping types who got some dude with a seven-string bass to play really loud finger tapping over the insane songs. But here on album three, the band proves they are head over heels better and, most importantly, more listenable and enjoyable, than most of today’s tech death. The secret? It’s all in the riffs, as ludicrous MESHUGGAH-on-speed carpal-tunnel tests/“songs” like ‘Misery Of A Profaned Soul’ prove (seriously, check out this song’s riffing!) with much skill, confidence, and ass-kickery. So, yeah, it’s hard to tell these bands apart and sometimes this stuff is just a bit much in every aspect, but everyone needs some technical death in their life, and there’s no reason to not make Illogicist the new go-to band for that particular fix of extremity. Recommended for genre fans or longhairs who want to check out an album of top-notch modern tech death.
