JUNGLE ROT - What Horrors Await

(Napalm)
Good ol’ dependable Jungle Rot. For 14 years the American unit has been bashing out album after album of old school death metal with minimal visibility or fanfare. More consistent than their brothers-in-groove Six Feet Under, Jungle Rot releases tend to be solid examples of a more accessible version of death metal than the heavier outfits mutilating ears in the sub-genre. Their guitar sound is less downtuned/gut wrenchingly heavy compared to Obituary (another like-minded outfit) and their vocalist’s barks, while meeting the requisite level of guttural brutality, tend to be a tad more discernible than the norm. Don’t misunderstand though, Jungle Rot ain’t some wimpy symphonic power metal unit, they’re still death metal to the core. If simple, mostly up-tempo death fills your iPOD library, then Jungle Rot’s What Horrors Await should be added to your shopping list. Includes a death metal run through of Destruction’s thrash classic ‘Invincible Force’.
