KING DIAMOND - Nightmares In The Nineties

By rights, a Best Of has no business being reviewed, but something should be said about this remarkably cool compilation. There's no new material to be had, only songs taken from the King's last four albums: House Of God, Voodoo, The Graveyard and The Spider's Lullabye. What makes this a brilliant listen is the fact that, whoever put this platter together was actually thinking about what they were doing. Nightmares features some of Diamond's heaviest, brashest material, with plenty of focus given to guitarist Andy Larocque's nastiest riffs, 'Trick Or Treat', 'Six Feet Under', 'One Down Two To Go' and 'The Trees Have Eyes' being the stand-outs. And, thankfully, chronological order was dismissed in favour of creating a seamless flow. This is indeed an introduction to the artist known as King Diamond for those that don't own a single one of his albums but have been more than a little curious, and an excellent one at that. Take the rating as you will, although it's meant as more of a tribute to his satanic majesty.
