MANOWAR - Gods Of War Live

Yikes. Here we go again, with another double live platter from the boys in loin. But the more of these things they release, the more I’m left with the feeling that Manowar are really about as heavy as BTO or Trooper, and like lots of people, I’m way too into metal to look at this completely OTT spread with an ironic twinkle in my eye, but I’m also way too into being a normal human being to want to listen to these huge epics about the swords, the rings and the kings because, well, it’s a bit embarrassing. If nothing else, this disc reminds me that ‘Warriors Of The World’ is a great tune and ‘Die For Metal’ is ludicrously enjoyable. But apart from that, pick some Manowar songs, some are here, some aren’t, whatever. One purpose it does serve is to cut away all the filler of the last album (which was 90% of the disc) and dish out the rockers, and, hey, separated from all that intro, pre-intro, spoken word, orchestral interlude crap, they’re not half-bad songs. But unfortunately, there’s enough of that spoken word junk on the second disc here. What, people are sitting through that live? Rating is pretty arbitrary; could be a 1, could be a 10 - it’s just fucking Manowar.
