METALIUM - Nothing To Undo

While the older German institutions – Gamma Ray, Helloween, Blind Guardian, Primal Fear - persevere and garner the glory, Metalium soldier on, doing brisk business but never really breaking through. Certainly Nothing To Undo should help pile on the fans, as the band has turned in a more aggressive but for the most part, not all that different record from their last, Demons Of Insanity. Vocalist Henning Basse is the king of the clarion call, able to compete with the likes of Ripper, Ralf and Joacim, at the drop of a schwinging epee. Two new members are on board, but still, the sound remains fussy, serious, bombastic power metal with prog elements, impossibly bright and trebly production, and lots of solos, many of them harmony leads. Not quite loaded up with personality like Brainstorm, Falconer and Masterplan, still, Metalium have built something admirable. I was surprised at the album’s 44 minute length, but there are so many quality ideas jam-packed into this thing, it certainly doesn’t feel truncated.
