PYRRHON - Growth Without End

Interesting watching Canadian indie Handshake Inc. slowly but surely rising to a place of respect within the extreme scene, things getting to the point where now they're putting out EPs from Relapse alumni like the mighty Pyrrhon, who here lay down 15 minutes of swirling psychotic death metal that is slightly less oppressive than last full-length, 2014's excellent The Mother Of Virtues.
Which isn't to say that it's easy listening by any means, songs like "Viral Content" being so difficult and antagonistic they're downright tough to listen to, which is exactly why Pyrrhon rule: this is death metal, but it's got a technical slant, a noise-rock vibe, a grindcore edge, and a sense of chaos and uncomfortable decision-making that's just this side of bearable, and is wholly, unapologetically enjoyable, if your idea of a good time is getting your head dented in by a bunch of freaky NY dudes with a warped sense of what is considered music. Count me in, big time: I think this band is one of the better operating in death metal right now, their sense of experimentation and refusal to stick to the genre's norms as exciting as their music, which is the rattling tin can of urban emptiness filled with echoes of death metal's legendary primal scream.
