SKELETONWITCH - Breathing The Fire

(Prosthetic)
Advertised as a thrash band with Testament leanings, the initial two tracks contradict the claim with its obvious references to Witchery. The snappy, excitable rhythm section and Toxine influenced rasp vocals are hard to ignore, harkening back to the Restless and Dead era for sure. That said, the balance of the album displays a host of other tendencies, from retro thrash, to Iron Maiden, to, yes, Testament. The sound is spot on, the energy of all the players coming through clearly and the guitar soloing a ripping highlight. Problem is that it all becomes a little tiring by the end, the lack of tempo or song structure variation detracting from the experience. Still, this is an enjoyable enough thrash romp if imbibed in moderation.
