SLASH – World On Fire

Picking up right where Apocalyptic Love left off, World On Fire begins with the rocket-fuelled title track and first single; if ever a song needed to be cranked to 11, this is it! At 17 tracks, and 77 minutes in length, World On Fire features a lot of music. It’s a beautifully textured album with plenty of enticing layers to it. From the unbelievably amazing “The Dissident” – you just have to hear this song – to the ‘70s inspired guitar riff that ignites “Automatic Overdrive”, and “Beneath The Savage Sun” which sounds like it could have been penned by the Wilson sisters of Heart, World On Fire is former Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash not only hitting it out of the park, but belting a grand slam at that. Vocalist Myles Kennedy (who also fronts Alter Bridge) proves once again that he’s one of the greatest singers in rock today – strong and soulful, he commands attention on “Bent To Fly” while adding just the right touch to “Dirty Girl”. At the risk of being overly critical, “Battleground” could have been trimmed down a bit; its seven minutes linger just a little too long, but the intriguing “Too Far Gone” more than makes up for it. Canadian rhythm section Todd Kerns (bass) and Brent Fitz (drums) lay down groove after wicked groove – and the cowbell in the beginning of “Withered Delilah” is just so damn enjoyable. Truly an album full of hits, World On Fire should be topping the charts and winning awards worldwide. “Iris Of The Storm” is a prime example of song-writing perfection; it’s got everything you could want and more. Thank you Slash and co. for delivering an album that is instantly addictive and will be cherished for years to come.
