SLAYER - Still Reigning

Still Reigning is the undisputed kings of live extreme doing a full, sequential march through the greatest thrash album of all time (Reign In Blood of course), with Dave Lombardo rightfully back atop the drum throne. Man, the potential for greatness couldn't be any more obvious. Bless their lazy-ass black souls, Slayer live up to the hype, this DVD capturing the sense of occasion palpable amongst the damn lucky, Maine attendees. From the opening blitzkrieg of 'Angel Of Death' to the highlight of 'Raining Blood' (a lacerating sky dousing the LA foursome making a visual connection to the track), the crowd can be heard and seen in full riot mode. As Araya pointed out early in the proceedings, they were in for a treat. This half hour alone is worth the price of this discounted DVD, but the thrash gods add another six oldies from the same gig as well (the highlight being a devastating 'Necrophobic' - how about giving Hell Awaits the same treatment lads?). Further, a short documentary is also included, containing a short band history in their own words and some behind-the-scenes sequences as the band prepared for the already legendary show. So, without hesitation or reservation, this music hack enthusiastically gives Still Reigning a double thumbs up. A must have.
