STEEL ASSASSIN - In Hellfire Forged

Formerly on Sentinel Steel, these reactivated, Boston area 80s metalheads have a new platter: eight tracks totaling 37:30. The guys obviously still hold a fondness for vinyl days! Actually, all but ‘’Burn Witch Burn’ and the ‘Breakout At St. Lo’ (about the World War II battle) were previously available, in demo form, on the ’97 From The Vaults compilation, sporting original vocalist Doni Escolas (a more Halford inspired voice). Musically, there’s a nod to legendary contemporaries Jag Panzer, the opening ‘Spartacus’ reminiscent of the Colorado clan’s ‘Battlezone’ and singer John Falzore sounds a bit like The Tyrant (aka Harry Conklin) on ‘Crusader’, while elsewhere he’s a dead-ringer for Iced Earth’s Matt Barlow (never morseo than on ‘Phaeton’). Classic/traditional metal, generally mid-to-up tempo, clean high pitched vocals and accents on guitar. Now how about some truly new material? If they haven’t already, can see the powers that be from Germany’s Keep It True pounding on Steel Assassin’s door, repeatedly. Get out the denim, leather and back patches, metal as it was meant to be!
