THE GREAT DECEIVER - A Venom Well Designed

Ex-At The Gates and current The Crown crooner Tomas Lindberg is one of those types who needs to be busy all the time it seems, The Great Deceiver just one of many undertakings Lindberg has a hand in. And thank the deity of your choice that A Venom Well Designed doesn't sound like Slaughter Of The Soul, because as appropriate and impressive as that record was in 1995, the Gothenburg sound has become bastardized beyond belief. It's somehow oddly fitting that one of those responsible for the scene has acquitted himself of such, and is experimenting with textures, melodies of the non-Maiden variety, and generally sounding like Disintegration-era The Cure with ultra-metallic substance. A Venom Well Designed is a sparse, dynamic and heavy record, one which will break through the monotony and poison you, with or without your consent.
