THE GREAT DECEIVER - Terra Incognito

The Great Deceiver's an odd little project, fronted by (who else?) Tomas Lindberg, but churning out a Joy-Division-meets-Entombed brand of quasi-industrial, halfway indie-rock, part gothic segment of rapture. 2002's A Venom Well Designed was a feast to these ears, coming off as something so unique and fresh in a land of accepted stagnation. That might be why Terra Incognito isn't quite as affecting, this new record playing conjoined twin to the previous effort. Granted, there are some changes here and there this time around, and on some tunes The Great Deceiver delves further into the land of electro and hardcore. Terra Incognito's a stronger record than the band's catalogue, but its impact is slighted by the repetition of ideas that are no longer as shocking and mature as they were at first sting.
