TRUCKFIGHTERS - Gravity X

These Swedish stoner rockers go for the requisite Man’s Ruin look on their full-length debut, and like a good stoner band, so far they’ve fallen into a split, a seven inch and a comp.). The band’s sound is very fuzzy circa Sons Of Otis and Kyuss and QOTSA, with those same Nick’ed ‘n’ high-up psychedelic bass licks as well as drums that verge on distorted. But the writing is more efficient and accessible than QOTSA, sorta like Fu Manchu and a bit of heavy Weezer. You’ve heard it all before countless times, which no doubt works against them, but Truckfighters mix it up as well, onslaught next to hard alternative structure rife with pregnant pauses, slacker singing next to angry rant, the grooves amusingly rich and deep. Oh, how to grade something like this? It’s so not anywhere new, but it’s also as good as most.
