UFO - You Are Here

Fans of veteran hard rock bands sure have been spoiled recently by quality releases from ZZ Top and Deep Purple. These same fans will be glad to hear that British act UFO have also just issued a new album adding to the embarrassing wealth of new material from the grizzled vet set. You Are Here does not quite live up to the standards of the recent releases of their competitors. However, hearing Phil Mogg's world-weary croon will surely bring a smile to HR fans' faces. Highlights include 'Give It Up', a boisterous rocker with a memorable chorus that has the ol' UFO spark, and a couple of love-to-love rock ballads ('Slipping Away' and 'Baby Blue') which are enhanced by some beautiful acoustic guitar passages. Talking of guitar, the battling Kraut Michael Schenker has been displaced here by whiz guitarist Vinnie Moore who provides sparkling, restrained leads that perfectly suit the well-crafted hard rock tracks which generally tend to be heavier than recent history. Fans of latter day UFO output (Sharks, Covenant and Walk On Water) will surely dig this.
