Hailing from Finland, this two-man project combine the best of distinctive Scandinavian sounds into something of a symphonic-tinged, neo-classical, keyboard-led brand of infectious metal with schizophrenic vocals, part Peter Tagtgren (Hypocrisy), part Borknagar/Vintersorg. God, hope we don't see that description as a new sub-genre in print ads! Actually, Wintersun are an enjoyable, multi-faceted sound, owing much to countrymen like Children Of Bodom, Nightwish and Stratovarius. Hell, if you're going to be "influenced" might as well start with the tops in each category. From the mournful 'Sleeping Stars' to the lickety-split 'Starchild' and acoustic-begun finale 'Sadness And Hate', it's an undulating, wild ride.
