Last year Rotting Christ made their debut on North American shores, doing a short but successful tour for Sleeping With The Angels opening for Cradle Of Filth. Not surprisingly, controversy seemed to be the name of the game according to Sakis. Cradle Of Filth, of course, attract their own brand of mayhem wherever they go, often thanks to the antics of singer Dani Filth, but Rotting Christ garnered attention all their own for more than just the music.

"It wasn't anything we didn't expect," says Sakis. "The name of the band really upset some parent groups in the States. They were protesting shows, trying to cancel them, preventing advertising because they thought we were there to corrupt their children. You know, the usual bullshit. At the beginning of the tour it was especially bad, but things got better as we went along. What I don't think these parent groups realize is that they just make us stronger by trying to ban us. That makes the kids, our fans, want to see us even more. In all, it was a great success for the band, even if the numbers were quite small at some shows."

And, for all the bitching being done by the wannabe censor boards, the band still managed to get away with murder. Vehicularly speaking, of course.

"My brother was the tour bus driver," laughs Sakis. "He drove right across America for three weeks and he doesn't even have a driver's license. We had no problems at all with that. We weren't stopped a single time."
