Narcotic Wasteland came out blasting pure unadulterated metal the moment they hit the stage at Denver’s The Venue. They roared through a relatively short setlist, but as the notes from each song faded in the air, the enthusiastic response from the audience packing the club increased exponentially.

Led by the towering presence of Dallas Toler Wade’s (formerly of Nile) the quartet’s unrelenting musical assault was in full display despite the small footprint of the stage, and I couldn’t help but noticing how their material has veered off the death-metal realm and gone more into the thrash/speed metal territory, adding powerful harmonies and infectious hooks.

Considering how cramped the venue was, their sound was remarkably articulated and cohesive, and the overall ferocity of their proposition turned out refreshing and at the same time brutal enough to keep the headbanging in the first rows to almost rowdy levels. Well done gentlemen!
