Grind On Webzine has posted an interview they recently conducted with vocalist Lasse Pyykkö of Razorback Recording artists VACANT COFFIN. An excerpt follows:

Q: So tell us a little about how Vacant Coffin got started, and why you chose to erect such a badass old school death metal band.

A: "I wanted to play something really fast stuff, short songs, just raw energy.... I have always dug old NAPALM DEATH, TERRORIZER, old CARCASS and stuff like that, so I was really into the idea of forming a band that drew the inspiration from those bands. Jussi (ex-PHLEGETHON) was supposed to be in the band also but he was too busy with other things to really concentrate on it."

Q: Do you think that he will ever be able to be a part of Vacant Coffin, or has already been decided that he will not help in the future?

A: "Well, since our line up is now completed I don't think there's no reason for Jussi to be in the band and it's also very unreal that he'd have the time."

Q: I see. So you are involved in alot of shit man. How does Vacant Coffin compare to your other projects as far as importance? Is it a full time band, or side project?

A: "It is a full time band just as hooded menace. These bands started basically as a side project of phlegethon but now its vice versa, haha.... phlegethon has been a bit harder to work on. VC and HM just seem to be easier to work on."

Q: Is it because the writing styles of Vacant Coffin and Hooded Menace come more naturally to you?

A: "Not really... phlegethon is much more technical and it would be cool to have a complete line up for that band. It would help rehearsing the songs properly etc. now Phlegethon is just me and Pekka (VC drummer) so rehearsing is not so much fun and we have only jammed once Phlegethon tunes. Anyway, we are going to rehearse more with just me and Pekka in the band. i guess I've just been more focused on VC and HM lately since things have been moving faster with the band. Phlegethon is not even signed so its not something to hurry with. the stuff for Phlegethon comes out naturally but perhaps it takes a bit more time since its a bit more complicated stuff. i just haven't had enough time to focus on Phlegethon."

Q: You're right, it definitely seems as though Vacant Coffin and HOODED MENACE have been going hard lately. Two badass albums have been released in less than three months. How have you managed to have time for it? You must have been in the studio for half of the year, haha.

A: "Thanks! Glad you dig em! Haha, luckily we don't have to go to a pro studio. We have used our own gear and our friend's equipment when needed. So, basically the studio means a home or a rehearsal spot. The songs poured just out pretty fast in the end of the day."

Q: How long did it take to write the albums for Hooded Menace and Vacant Coffin?

A: "Argh, I don't remember exactly. I started writing for the both bands in 2007. Maybe from seven to nine months or so... not sure though. I have a bad memory, haha!"

Q: Did you record throughout that time, or did you come back afterwards and record what you had previously written?

A: "Both of the albums were recorded in parts."

Q: How did you start working with Razorback Records?

A: "Billy discovered Vacant Coffin from myspace and asked us to sign"to them. That was the start, and he knew that he knew that it [Hooded Menace] should be a Razorback band!"

Q: Are you expecting to have a very long and fruitful relationship with Razorback Records?

A: "Yeah, it's been cool so far so I don't see a reason why to stop any time soon."
