news riff notes stream of passion

STREAM OF PASSION bassist Johan van Stratum has checked in with the following studio update:

"Blasted away! I was simply blasted away! Then Jochem turned down the guitars on my headphones to a reasonable volume, time to record the bass!

We’ve been working for 1.5 year on this record, and we’re getting closer and closer to the final result. I tell you, it feels so good to hear every layer being added, new dimensions being recorded. I’m very curious how you will all feel about the new record when it’s out (you gotta love the teasing).

Jochem and Joost are two very talented producers who have already proven their skills in numerous projects. Luckily, they’re doing that again. It felt good to record the bass parts for the new songs. The nice low and bright sound we created only ads to the guitars, exactly the way we planned it to.

Right after having played the Christmas Metal Symphony gig, I carried my trustworthy Markbass into the Split Second Sound Studio in Tilburg NL. I think we made a bass sound consisting of a combination of three sounds. I’m not totally sure, cause when Jochem gets into his producers role… damn… it all goes fast! Just hide your coffee when he’s around, that’s all I’m gonna say ;)

Of course the tuning was tricky with all the down tuned guitars that were already recorded and we changed some tunings various times, just like Steve described basically.

After a total of eight hours all the bass parts were on tape and ready to mangle with the rest. Like I said before, I can’t wait for everything to be finished, mixing, mastering and then the release! I hope you will get just as excited as we are as a band. As far as we’re concerned, we’re gonna blow your ears away!

Thanks for all the support! Stay tuned for the next blog!!"

Johan
