Swedish melodic thrash quintet DECADENCE check in with the following update:

"Last week, on the 23rd and 24th of June, we recorded two more scenarios for our upcoming music video!

On day one we headed out to a big national park/nature reserve called Tyresta, located about 20km from Stockholm and is according to their website "one of the most unspoiled areas of natural beauty in central Sweden". As it turned out, we could all agree on that. We needed a big, dark and mysterious forest as the character that I (Kitty) play in the video is based on ancient Swedish mythology.

The character is actually a combination of two characters, one created by the Swedish artist, painter and illustrator called John Bauer (1882-1918) and the other from the mythology.

The John Bauer character, called “Tuvstarr”, is a tender, delicate being heading out in the big mythology based world. Bauer’s paintings of Tuvstarr have become more famous than the actual fairytale and we wanted to use her and the analogy behind it (as some of you might know, analogies is something I always use in my lyrics) in this music video.

When Tuvstarr (who is a princess) escapes from the castle, away from the glorious life and into the deep forest, she is wearing a long white dress which gets stolen. This is where the other character comes in, the creature of the Swedish mythology called “Skogsrået”, or a “Skogsrå”. She is a female being living in the forest and she stole the dress from Tuvstarr and put it on herself. Skogsrået is the female ruler of the wilderness. She lures lost people, most often men. Seeing her from the front, she is beautiful, but behind her is an old hollowed-out tree trunk growing instead of her back. Skogsrået is not only evil, she was also known to help the people she cared about, especially girls that were herding their animals/cattle alone in the dark forest that was her kingdom.

Having this background history in mind when thinking of Decadence’ upcoming video, the character that I’m playing is a combination of Tuvstarr and Skogsrået. It’s a black and white side of the same element. This character is not the focal point in the video, it’s the analogy itself and the things that will be going on around it.

On day two we headed out to Täby Kyrkby, which by the way is the place where Decadence took its first rehearsal notes and played live for the first time! The district of Täby still has remains left from the Iron Age and many of the streets carry Viking-related names (the place that Decadence used to rehearse in many years ago is called Runan (eng. Rune stone). We went back to this place because we needed an abandoned location in our video and we got a tip about a special spot in this area. It fit perfectly and so the final group scenes were filmed. One more scene is planned to be added on by August.

As an endnote I will mention some funny/scary things that happened during these days! The first day when we came with all our stuff to the woods of Tyresta and we put the stereo down on the ground it somehow turned itself on and started playing the track that we will record to... the next day our producer wanted to light some candles in a fire place at the abandoned location and the (new) candles didn’t want to lit even though there was no wind... After a while they did in a mysterious way. On the door to that place there was a sign saying: “The day the clown cried”. To finish this off, two huge black dogs appeared out of nowhere, no owner in sight, and then ran off... well, these were just perfect signs we think!

These two days were really great and something we will remember.
