GREAT WHITE singer Jack Russell spoke with Patrick Douglas from Greatfallstribune.com about their deadly gig at the Station Nightclub in Rhode Island six years ago. A fire broke out during the band's opening song because of a combination of pyrotechnics and shoddy insulation, resulting in 100 deaths, including Great White guitarist Ty Longley. It was the fourth deadliest nightclub fire in U.S. history.

Russell and guitarist Mark Kendall are the only current band members to have lived through that horrific evening. The two have vowed to persevere and continue rocking behind a constant wave of fan support.

"The biggest factor was people all over the world sending e-mails and letters and things like that talking about how much the music has meant to them and it has affected their lives in a positive aspect. 'Please don't even think about quitting,' and 'The world will be a worse place without you guys,' " Russell said.

"That kind of stuff really helped us to get past that as much as you can get past it. It's one of those things you never truly forget about, nor should you. That would be a slap in the face to people that died or were injured."

While few would fault them for deciding to call it quits, the band has continued to play shows and record albums.

"You just get back on the horse," Russell said. "There was a time I just didn't feel it was right to work on any songs and when the time was right, I knew the time would come around."
