KORPIKLAANI frontman Jonne Järvelä is featured in a new interview. An excerpt is available below.

Q: You’ve compared Korpiklaani to other Finnish folk acts. What distinguishes Korpiklaani from the rest?

JJ: "After all, we have our very own style of writing songs. People know right away that it is Korpiklaani when they listen the first seconds of our music. We have our own sound and way to do music."

Q: I’ve heard Korpiklaani described as ‘farmers’ compared to the Viking image of MOONSORROW, TURISAS and ENSIFERUM. Think that’s accurate?

JJ: "Moonsorrow, Turisas, and Ensiferum are more like city people. They are from towns. We, in Korpiklaani, are from the countryside, near the forests and fields. You can easily hear it when you listen our music side by side. Also, the lyrics are very different. I never understood how Finnish bands can be Viking, because the historical fact is the Finns were the Vikings’ biggest enemy. There was some trading with Vikings, but mostly it was just fighting. Maybe it is fancier to sing about Vikings than poor Finns."
