Greece's Rockpages has issued an exclusive interview with legendary photographer Ross Halfin. The following is an excerpt:
Q: You started working in a period when the “punk” movement was at an all-time high in England. I remember seeing your name at the bottom of photos by such artists as THE CLASH and SEX PISTOLS. How different was the whole atmosphere in a punk show compared to a rock one, from a photographer’s point of view?
A: "Punk was the most over rated thing ever! No light show, shitty venues, people spitting... it was awful! I welcomed going to shoot... say THIN LIZZY or UFO over any punk band."
Q: You have shot many covers for Kerrang. Which one stands in your mind as being the most representative of your work and why?
A: "Maybe an early IRON MAIDEN one of Steve Harris. The rest are rubbish looking at them now.
Q: Through the years, you have become a regular photographer of bands like Iron Maiden and METALLICVA (just to name a couple of them). Was it gratifying for you to have your work recognized by established acts or it was business as usual?
A: "Well I knew Iron Maiden when they started out playing pubs. Metallica wanted me or Lars (Ulrich) did purely because I shot Iron Maiden so when I knew both of them they were not established."
