Swedish guitar hero YNGWIE MALMSTEEN has issued the following statement regarding passing of legendary vocalist RONNIE JAMES DIO (DIO, BLACK SABBATH, HEAVEN & HELL, RAINBOW, ELF) who lost his battle with stomach cancer on Sunday, May 16th at 7:45 AM PST at the age of 67:

"I’m deeply saddened by the devastating news. Ronnie was a dear friend and without a doubt the most brilliant of all Rock sirens. He lives forever in our hearts and will never be a equaled. Long Live Ronnie James Dio."

Malmsteen donated his guitar to the city of Bologna during the inauguration of Music Italy Show last Saturday, May 15th. When asked how he felt about headlining the Music Italy show and now the donation to the City Of Bologna, Malmsteen responded: “This is huge honor for me, I love Italy and the Italian people, they know how to love and appreciate music."

The ceremony opened with a by the 65-piece Giuseppe Verdi Marching Band followed by Malmsteen signing and presenting his guitar to the City Of Bologna.
