On the occasion of the release of the new CAVALERA CONSPIRACY album, Blunt Force Trauma, SpazioRock's Stefano Risso spoke with Max Cavalera (SOULFLY, SEPULTURA). The following is an excerpt from the interview:

Q: Blunt Force Trauma, it’s kind of a concept born from a smash-up, a traumatic moment, if I’m not mistaken. Is this fact that influenced the writing and made you play faster and more brutal songs?

A: "The idea came to a friend of mine, who suggested this title. When I asked him what he meant with Blunt Force Trauma, he answered saying that he meant a trauma, a strong strike on the head, a smash-up, a Blunt Force Trauma experience!... And I found that all of this had something in common with the sound of the record, because its music is very violent, and it’s a “blunt force trauma” for real. I immediately understood that this was the perfect name for the album; I talked with Igor about it, and he liked it so we started working on it with this name in our minds."

Q: Now I’m going to ask you something I’d have liked to ask since the very first day Cavalera Conspiracy was born: what is the reason, the aim of Cavalera Conspiracy? I’ll explain it better: you have a long career with Soulfly, why should you make another project similar in terms of style and approach?

A: "My aim with Cavalera Conspiracy was to keep on working with my brother, we began working in the 80s, we were kids, we grew up in Brazil playing music together and sharing the same stage… We basically wanted to go back to playing together. I hadn’t spoken to my brother for ten years, when we made it up, I invited him to play music together again so that’s how Cavalera Conspiracy was born. It’s something that has filled the emptiness I had for not having played with my brother… I don’t even know how to explain it with my own words.. It was something necessary for me. If I wanted to be happy in my life, I had to go back playing music with Igor, it’s very easy. I like his company very much, he likes to be on stage with me; playing thrash music with him gives me much energy and gives me great feelings when I’m on stage with him."
