According to Fangoria.com, Fangoria editor Chris Alexander continues his Film School Confidential series at Toronto’s Bloor Cinema this Wednesday, May 25 at 9:30 PM with a 35MM airing of the Ivan Reitman-produced 1981 classic Heavy Metal.

Director Gerald Potterton will make a rare appearance at the event, introducing the picture and engaging in a Q&A; with the audience. Alexander and Sheridan College animation professor Christopher Walsh will join Potterton for this event.

Heavy Metal will no longer be a Best Buy exclusive in June and will be available at all retailers on the 14th. The Blu-ray has 1080p video, a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 soundtrack, and extras include: Imagining Heavy Metal, Deleted Scenes, Heavy Metal: Feature Length Rough Cut (with optional commentary by Carl Macek - author of Heavy Metal: Animation For The 80s).

A film description reads as follows:

Based on the fantastical illustrated magazine Heavy Metal, producer Ivan Reitman enlists the help of some of Hollywood's animation masters to create the otherworldly tale of a glowing green orb from outer space that spreads destruction throughout the galaxy. Only when encountered by its one true enemy, to whom it is inexplicably drawn, will goodness prevail throughout the universe. Richly and lavishly drawn, the vignettes of the orb's dark victories include the character voices of John Candy, Harold Ramis and a pounding soundtrack by BLACK SABBATH, BLUE ÖYSTER CULT, CHEAP TRICK, DEVO, DONALD FAGEN, DON FELDER, GRAND FUNK RAILROAD, SAMMY HAGAR, JOURNEY, NAZARETH, STEVIE NICKS, RIGGS, AND TRUST. Highly imaginative and full of surprising special effects, Heavy Metal set the standard for alternative contemporary animation. An intoxicating experience not be missed!
