Guitar International's Rob Cavuoto recently caught up with QUEENSRŸCHE guitarist Michael Wilton to discuss the band's new album, Dedicated To Chaos. An excerpt follows:

Q: Can you tell us about the new Queensrÿche CD, Dedicated To Chaos, and how it differs from previous Queensrÿche releases?

A: "It’s kind of a new departure for us. That’s about it. It’s coming out the 28th and we’ll be touring it pretty extensively."

Q: When you say “departure”, I thought your last album, American Solider, was a real departure. What can we expected for this one?

A: "Definitely more alternative but I’m more of a metal guy."

Q: Are there any tracks that are your favorites?

A: "There’s a song called 'Lies', which has a really nice groove to it. The song 'Drive' is about driving a car. Those two right now are my personal favorites."

Queensrÿche's new digital single, for the Dedicated To Chaos album track 'Get Started', is now available at usual digital platforms.

“Modern life moves fast,” commented frontman Geoff Tate about the album. “Plug into the rhythm of the now with our 12th studio album, Dedicated To Chaos. It’s a clash and slash of musical experimentation anchored by the pulse of digital code.”

He did issue one suggestion to listeners as well, saying: “Enjoy – headphones are a must.”

BraveWords.com spoke to frontman Geoff Tate late last year about the album. "It will be a very strong collection of songs. The topic of the album is all over the place. There's a lot of different subjects we tackle. The sound and the writing direction is probably more focused on rhythm than any of our records have been. Scott (Rockenfield; drums) and Eddie (Jackson; bass) are contributing a lot to the composition of this record, so there's a lot of focus on rhythm structure and keeping things very rhythmatic and moving. It's got a lot of very intricate bass/drum work on it that perhaps hasn't been featured on earlier albums. Therefore it's going to have a very modern sound to it. Music these days, outside of hard rock and metal, is really rhythm-oriented. There's a lot of movement to it. So we're kind of going with that as a feature on this record. Still, there's a lot of interesting guitar work as we try to push the guitar into different areas as well, while trying to stay away from the bone-head stuff like the chunk-chunk-chunk kind of thing. We're using the guitars in a more melodic sense. The band is producing it with Kelly Gray, our longtime friend and engineer (and former guitarist)."
