MANAHAN To Perform At Barrie New Music Awards Next Weekend

Keswick, Ontario-based shredders MANAHAN, featuring 17-year old frontman Cory Manahan, have been confirmed to play the Barrie New Music Awards at The Mansion Nightclub in Barrie, Ontario on July 17th. It features over 20 independent music award categories, Manahan is one of the nominees for Best Metal Band.

The Barrie New Music Awards coincide with the Barrie New Music Fest, which runs from July 14th - 17th. The festival will feature roughly 70 live touring artists of various genres, performing a series of concerts/showcases at Barrie’s finest live music venues. THE TEA PARTY, IAN THORNLEY & BIG WRECK, with guests INTO THE ENTROPY, will be headlining the event. Go to this location for details.

Manahan’s list of guitar influences is long and loaded, as expected, with metal royalty…

“ZAKK WYLDE, DIMEBAG, TONY IOMMI, RANDY RHOADS, SLASH… I’ve been listening to them since I was 13 and it hasn’t changed. The first people you hear are the ones that’ll influence you. JAMES HETFIELD is the master of rhythm playing. Downpick that shit and try to sing it; it’s impossible (laughs). When I was 14 I tried to play ‘Blackened’ as fast as possible – all downpicking – and sing it at the same time. Forget it (laughs).”
