Scotland Courier reports:

With just over a week left to run, the exhibition at Gateway to the Glens Museum in Kirriemuir has exceeded all expectations.

Museum assistant Sheila Philp said, "We wondered if we were going to break the previous record of 275 visitors in a day. On what would have been Bon Scott's 65th birthday we got 402 visitors. We didn't break the record — we smashed it."

Bon Scott was born Ronald Belford Scott in Forfar in 1946 and lived in Kirriemuir until 1952, when his family moved to Australia.

Fans have packed the museum to see the Bon Scott memorabilia owned by Neil McDonald, who has the biggest collection in the UK. Items include a Let There Be Rock 1977 UK LP and a rare Australian cassette album, 12 Of The Best, which was an AC/DC "best of" album scheduled for release in 1978 but scrapped at the last minute.

Ms. Philp said, "It's the first time so many rare items have been under the one roof. We took a chance doing something like this and it's good to know it has come off. The exhibition will close on August 6TH so we would urge anyone who wants to see it to come along."

According to Screen Daily, two films drawing on the lives of Australian rock stars who died prematurely – Bon Scott of AC/DC fame and INXS frontman Michael Hutchence – have scored development money from Screen Australia.

Bon Scott will be directed by Eddie Martin and produced by Lizzette Atkins, who worked together on another biopic, the feature-length documentary Lionel about a boxer. Stephen Cleary is script editing.

The narrative concert of Bon Scott’s life, Hell Ain’t A Bad Place To Be, has been extended with shows added tonight, Friday, July 29th, and a matinee and night show on Saturday, July 30th. Tickets for the four new shows at the Athenaeum Theatre in Melbourne are on sale now through Ticketmaster here.

Nick Barker - an Australian singer-songwriter and guitarist who formed the Melbourne-based rock, power pop band NICK BARKER & THE REPTILES - tells the story of Scott’s life early years and his time with AC/DC through stories and songs.

The writer/producer Andrew Barker says in a press release: “The story of the rise of AC/DC is in everyone’s memory as if we were all there: riding high through the middle of Melbourne in the 1970s, singing the story of life on the road, of dreams and broken promises, of the long way to the top. At the centre of the band stands a man with bagpipes and a wicked grin – Bon Scott.”
