Duff McKagan (LOADED, VELVET REVOLVER, ex-GUNS N' ROSES) received an honorary high school diploma in Seattle last week, over 30 years after having dropped out. McKagan quit Roosevelt High School in grade 10, and later took the GED to prove his academic skills.

Duff returned to Seattle for the Class of 2012 graduation ceremony, and was given his honorary diploma after making a speech at the event.

He posted: "Finally got my High School diploma today. I did the not-so-popular 48-year plan.”

According to Kirotv.com, Seafair President Beth Knox has announced that McKagan will be this year’s Grand Marshal of the Alaska Airlines Seafair Torchlight Parade. This year’s parade is on Saturday, July 28th, at 7:30 PM. As always, it starts at Seattle Center and heads downtown along Fourth Avenue on a 2-1/2 mile route.

Knox described the Seattle native as a huge fan of the city and Seafair.

“Duff is a huge Seattle fan, he loves all things Seattle, including Seafair. He grew up enjoying the hydroplane races and coming to the Torchlight Parade,” said Knox.
