EARTHEN GRAVE / ex-TROUBLE bassist Ron Holzner will be guest DJing on Diane Farris' Peer Pressure segment of her radio program on WFMU today (Thursday, November 29th). Listeners will be able to ask Holzner questions via the live interactive playlist. Holzner's appearance is scheduled for 1:00pm - 2:30pm EST.

WFMU can be heard on 91.1FM in NYC and East/Central NJ, 90.1FM in the Hudson Valley, Lower Catskills and Western NJ, and worldwide streaming on www.wfmu.org. An archive of this program will be permanently available by later Thursday evening.

Holzner recently spoke with Mark Morton at The Examiner. An excerpt is available below:

MM: It seemed to take quite a while between the releases of the demo EP and the new album. And it really sounds like the band grew exponentially during that time.

Holzner: "Oh definitely! When we did the demo, it was still pretty fresh and new for us. We had a lot of stuff written even before Rachel joined the band, and then we went and re-arranged it for the violin. We really had to figure out how we were going to do this as a band and how we were going to even approach writing the music. So we did the demo to start shopping and hopefully get a record deal… which didn’t happen.

But since then, we’d done a lot of shows. Playing live is really what it’s all about. We played a ton of shows with Rachel, and we’ve also done some without her, so we learned how to put songs together and even tweaked the older material. So it got to a point where we got to a good spot and wanted to record again. It’s great; it grew like something we never knew would!"

MM: It surprises me that you would have so much difficulty shopping the band, unless the Trouble legacy doesn’t mean anything in the 21st century.

Holzner: "It does, but only if I’m playing in Trouble (laughs). It’s like this THE SKULL thing I’m doing with Eric Wagner and Jeff Olson; we hadn’t even played a note, and we had festivals wanting to pay us to play and record companies wanting us to record with them. And here I’ve got a great record with a great band, and they didn’t even want to listen to it. It’s twisted, man."

MM: Have you at least been able to reap the benefits of a retroactive level of respect and discovery due to the Internet age?

Holzner: "Without a doubt! I think it has helped the doom metal scene rise to heights we’ve never seen before. I mean, look at it, SAINT VITUS reunited and PENTAGRAM is touring the world! I love that people can actually search for your stuff now. The Internet is great; it’s not just for porn! (laughs). Finding good music is what it’s all about!"
