METALLICA may not have won a Grammy, but they took home a 3D Award Tuesday night and RumorFix was there.

Lars Ulrich and Robert Trujillo accepted the award for “Best 3D Documentary” from the International 3D & Advanced Imaging Society on the Warner Brothers lot in Burbank.

While accepting the award for Metallica Through the Never, Lars said, “I would like to thank the Imaging Society and the 3D Awards for deciding to throw this shindig on the day of our DVD release - available every where on Blu Ray, VOD and soon in 4K whatever that means.”

Lars’ joke came right after 3net’s Space: Unraveling The Cosmos and Breaking Bad won awards for best use of 4K on TV. (By the way 4K TVs provide four times the resolution of HD.)

Lars said there was never a question on how they would shoot the documentary: “Four years ago when we got this idea - we had no idea what this move would be - other than we knew that it was going to be in 3D,” he said to the crowd of 250 including Dreamworks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg, who won the prestigious Harold Lloyd award.

The rock drummer said he wanted “the 3D to bring the Metallica audience on stage- bled on, sweated on - spit on.”

The award show went on for three hours, but Lars wasn’t complaining - he said, “These awards are the coolest because there is no walk off music.”

His final remarks: “Thanks for inviting us for the party.”

Through The Never, directed by award-winning filmmaker Nimród Antal, is now available on DVD, Blu-ray, 3D Blu-ray, digitally, and V.O.D. (Video On Demand) through Blackened Recordings. Check the video for 'One' from the release below:
