BW&BK; recently hooked up with PAIN OF SALVATION frontman Daniel Gildenlow to discuss the band's new album, Scarsick. The following is an excerpt from the story, with Gindenlow discussing the controversial disco track, 'Disco Queen':

“You should hear our jam sessions," laughs Gildenlow. "I mean, we’re able to come up with pretty standard radio pop songs if we want to, so having the band accept the material wasn’t a problem. It was a little bit of a problem with the label and the other people we’re working with. When they heard the album the first time, especially ‘America’ and ‘Disco Queen’ it was like, ’Well…uh…are you sure about this?’; ‘America’ for political reasons and ‘Disco Queen’ for all the obvious reasons (laughs). There was a soft but pretty firm campaign to try and talk us out of dropping those songs, and in my world those are the two songs that, if I had to drop songs from the album until there were only two left, they would be the ones that remained. I agree they don’t rhyme completely with the rest of the material but those are the songs that balance the album. Take them away and you’re taking that little red dot out of a painting that makes the whole painting work. The song ‘Disco Queen’ may seem like it’s throwing off the concept, when in fact it’s about that abusive behaviour mankind exhibits not only on an individual scale, but on a larger societal one. That song is about people selling out, about using themselves and other people as products, selling ideology, selling everything.”
