According to Myrtlebeachonline.com, hard-core theme park fans who have already scooped up annual passes for Hard Rock Park will have to dig back into their wallets if they want to be one of the first people through the gates.

The park will open April 14, but it will not accept annual passes until the official opening May 9.

Only a few thousand people a day will be admitted in April for what the park is calling a "soft opening," said Kerry Graves, the park's vice president of sales and marketing.

The soft opening is "to make sure that our staff's trained to give the experience that we're promising and to make sure everything's operating and working right," Graves said.

On a normal summer day, the park could hold around 30,000 to 35,000 people, he said.

Day tickets and vouchers for annual tickets went on sale Thursday.

Day tickets are now $50, up from the $46 price that had been offered since April.

Annual passes go for $150.

The tickets are available on the park's revamped Web site, hardrockpark.com, which also debuted Thursday.

The annual passes will be good for a full calendar year from the first time they are used.

As previously reported, the centerpiece will be LED ZEPPELIN - The Ride, a 155-foot-tall steel roller coaster. Jimmy Page named the ride himself and picked the song 'Whole Lotta Love' to be played as riders hurl through six loops and rolls at speeds of up to 65 m.p.h.
