Imhotep reporters MetalGeorge and Roy Kristensen have issued an interview with singer/guitarist Tweak, from Finnish metallers KINETIK CONTROL.

The following is an excerpt from the interview:

Q: In the beginning it is important for some to find the “correct” image, while others develop their style while they develop their music. How important is image to you and what kind of image do you think will fit to your style of music?

A: “I think it is important for everyone, no matter whether you play in a band or not, to have an identity. Image is a natural part of one’s identity. If, by image, you mean a fake image built just for the sake of it, then yeah, I’ve noticed that many bands do it like that. Maybe it is good business wise, especially if one is so insecure of one’s true identity, or thinks it sucks so badly that one needs to create a fake image. We in Kinetik Control are just what we are; if people do not listen to our music because of that, they can fuck off, we don’t care.”

Q: Your music will most likely be compared to other bands, since it’s--if not a limit--at least hard to invent something totally unique. How do you view your music in comparison with the scene, and do you really think it is important to be completely original? Do you think you have any chance to survive in this overload of strange band names, copied music and lack of original ideas?

A: “I think originality is very important, and many bands do not have it, but bands like ours definitely benefit from that, because we are doing our own thing. It is, in that way, easy for the listener to differentiate bands that are in the music business for the wrong reasons, and who are here for the music. If you don’t have an idea of your own, it is better to remain in the basement.

I do not feel a part of any scene and I do not understand what a scene even means anymore today. We don’t think about any categories or scenes, we just do our music and let other people categorize it in whichever way they want. I believe in us, in good music, and people in general. Therefore, I believe that good music will always survive and get noticed. If one does it from one’s heart, success is only a matter of patience and hard work.”
