HOUSE OF LORDS vocalist JAMES CHRISTIAN appeared on The Classic Metal Show on 3/28/08 to discuss the band’s latest release, Come To My Kingdom. During the course of the conversation, Christian admitted that he’s faced professional struggles getting the band distribution due to him being the only original member of the band remaining. During the conversation, he stated that he should be able to call this band House Of Lords in the same way David Coverdale can call his band Whitesnake.

The Classic Metal Show: With World Upside Down, did people come back to the band the way they did when you released albums like Sahara?

Christian: "With World Upside Down, a lot of people were saying, 'let’s wait and see' because they had heard that I was the only original member. I was getting slack from a lot of people saying, 'How can you call it House Of Lords?' My response would be, 'the same way David Coverdale calls his band WHITESNAKE.' If you’ve been in the band long enough, you earn that title. I feel like I’m the only original member that’s been on every single House Of Lords record, so I use that title and I kept true to the sound of the band."

The Classic Metal Show: What do you think of the music industry today? I know it’s in complete turmoil. Is it a viable industry for a guy like yourself anymore, or is a record just a means to get you out on tour and have something new and fresh to offer at shows?

Christian: "Well, for me, it is practically a full time job. If I’m not doing a House Of Lords record, I’ll do a solo record. Then I have my wife who actually does records, maybe 2 a year, ROBIN BECK…who’s very famous in Europe. Between the both of us and the other productions that I do, it keeps me totally busy. I’m able to make a good living in doing that production for people, singing on other people’s records. There’s a lot of European records that my voice is on as lead vocals or background or producing or whatever. It keeps me very busy. For House Of Lords, we sell quite a few records over in Europe. Come To My Kingdom will actually be the first record that we’ve released in the US in some format here. The last record, World Upside Down, just got some kind of distribution here in the states. People were worried. Distributors were going, 'well, it’s not the same band.' We ran into so many obstacles that I kept saying to myself, 'is it always going to have to be about business and never about the music?' When are they going to get it? People buy music…if it’s good, I don’t care who’s on the album. I’m going to buy it. It really got to me. I started seeing that now I’m going up against all these brick walls because it’s just me and not the other five members. Even if the record is great? That just didn’t make sense."
