According to Thewest.com.au, Fremantle continues its fascination with former AC/DC lead singer Bon Scott, with preparations under way to install his statue at Fishing Boat Harbour near Cicerellos and the Fremantle Arts Centre preparing for a novel exhibition.

Nineteen artists will come together for the exhibition next month to celebrate Scott’s life in their own way - in painting, sculpture, drawing, animation and installation art.

WA artist Rebecca Dagnall’s contribution to the Bon Scott Project will be an exhibition of photographs of Bon Scott fans and the various ways they express their devotion.

Sydney artist Lucas Ihlein has begun a Bon Scott blog, collecting anecdotes about his own and others’ experiences of Scott.

There will also be a display at the centre of Scott’s letters and a panel discussion on the impact Scott and his skinny leg jeans had on fashion.

Then some of Perth’s top musicians will join forces to form an arts centre tribute band, FAC/DC.

Ronald Belford Scott was raised in North Fremantle and was part of AC/DC from 1974 until his death in 1980. He is buried in Fremantle Cemetery.

Fremantle Arts Centre curator Jasmine Stephens said Scott was a prolific letter writer and his letters had never been exhibited before.

“The letters are quite bawdy and rude because that’s what he was like,” she said.

“What you feel when you look at the letters is that he was rehearsing his song lyrics in the letters.

They were collected by old friends, old girlfriends; he kept in touch with a lot of people over a long period of time.”

She said that not all the artists exhibiting had been fans but what they acknowledged in the works they were making was his tremendous impact on the music world and the icon he had become.

“He has more fans now than he did when he was alive,” Ms Stephens said.

“He died when he was 33 and I suppose the exhibition seeks to really uncover why his appeal is so enduring.

“Different people have different views on this but the things that are continually cited are his incredible sense of humour, electrifying performances and his everyman persona.”

She admitted she had not been a fan before curating the show.

“But he has many incredibly supportive fans,” she said.

“Fremantle mayor Peter Tagliaferri is a fan and (Planning and Infrastructure Minister) Alannah MacTiernan is an absolute tragic.”

The Bon Scott Project is at the centre from May 17 to June 29.
