Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry is featured in a new interview with Examiner.com, discussing his new book Rocks: My Life In And Out Of Aerosmith, and more. An excerpt follows:
Q: It seems like Aerosmith is one of those groups that’s out every year. Obviously you love touring, but is there any one reason you’re always out there on the road?
A: "That’s kind of what we do, one way or the other. No matter what’s going on out there on the music scene, whatever’s trendy, whatever’s going on in the business as far as - I mean, we’ve seen it from recording eight tracks to... an infinite number of tracks. We’ve seen it go from albums, the big plastic things, to... what is it? It’s just changed so much. Also, most music fans don’t even know the experience of having an album, you know, a plastic album that’s got all this great cover art. We’ve seen it change so much.
I don’t even know what it would be like to put out another album. I don’t know if we’ll do another album. Maybe we’ll do EPs or put out a couple of songs here and there out on the Net, and then see what happens with them. If we get enough together, maybe we’ll put out a package and call it an album; I don’t know.
We’re just excited to get the last couple of gigs from this tour finished and take a break. Between working on the album and working on the book as well, the last three years have been really busy. So I’m just looking forward to taking some time off. I’m actually working on a solo record at some point in the next two or three months, and then we’ll see what happens."
