Department Of Transportation In US Issues Standardized Policy For Musicians Travelling With Instruments - "Flying The Friendly Skies Just Got A Little Friendlier"

GuitarPlayer.com is reporting that the Department Of Transportation in the US has finally ruled on the subject of musicians travelling with their instruments as carry-on luggage:

It finally happened.

For musicians who don't have their own private planes, flying the friendly skies just got a little friendlier. Maybe not as friendly as things on Led Zeppelin's Starship, but enough to ease a few travel worries.

The Department of Transportation issued their long-awaited ruling standardizing the policy of all U.S. airlines for musicians traveling with their instruments as carry-on luggage. Mostly.

Effective next month, all U.S. airline carriers will be required to allow passengers to bring small musical instruments into the cabin as carry-on luggage, and the airlines can no longer charge any fee beyond a standard carry-on.

According to the rule, musical instruments should be stored like other carry-on bags, on a first-come, first-served basis. In short, overhead baggage doesn't have to be moved to make room for a guitar, but once the guitar has been stowed in the overhead bin, the owner doesn't have to move it for anyone else.

Hopefully this means musicians no longer have to live in fear of this:
