DURAN DURAN To Donate Royalties From EAGLES OF DEATH METAL’s “Save A Prayer” Cover To Charity

Duran Duran have pledged to donate proceeds from sales of Eagles Of Death Metal’s cover of their hit “Save A Prayer” to charity.

A fan-led campaign has made a bid to get the track by the US rock band to the top of the charts following Friday’s terror attacks in Paris. Eagles Of Death Metal performed at music venue Le Bataclan on Friday, with over 80 people killed during a shooting at the gig.

According to KABC, one of the crew members for the Eagles Of Death Metal was killed in the terrorist attack in Paris on Friday.

Nick Alexander, 36, of Colchester, England, was working the merchandise table when the group performed at the Bataclan.

The band was in the middle of its set when gunmen entered through several entrances and killed 80 people.

"Nick was not just our brother, son and uncle, he was everyone's best friend - generous, funny and fiercely loyal," his family said in a statement. "Nick died doing the job he loved and we take great comfort in knowing how much he was cherished by his friends around the world."

The band members all made it out of the theater safely by escaping out a backstage door.

Nick Alexander had also worked with Alice In Chains who posted on Facebook: "Nick was a great guy and a true professional. It was an honour and pleasure to work with him."

As mentioned above, fans of the band have begun an online campaign to their cover of Duran Duran's “Save A Prayer” to number one in the UK.

The Facebook group says: “Let's get the Eagles Of Death Metal to the UK No.1 this week to show our solidarity against terrorism and support for peace.

For those unaware, EODM and their fans were the band caught up in the horrific atrocities in Paris this week. We thought it would be a nice gesture to put their brilliant version of 'Save A Prayer' to the UK No.1 spot as a show of support to the band and all of those affected. For the record no we aren't associated with the band or their record company, we're just fans of them that feel happy to be alive as some of our fellow EODM fans are tragically not now. Royalties we assume would go to Duran Duran as they wrote the song but that's not the point of this campaign. This is not for profit or financial gain, just to make a strong statement.”
