ENTOMBED A.D. Guitarist Discusses New Album, Longevity Of Death Metal With Joel Gausten

In a new feature by music writer Joel Gausten, Entombed A.D. guitarist Nico Elgstrand discusses the band's new album Back To The Front (due August 5th on Century Media Records), the band's current line-up, the reasons behind the addition of “A.D.” to the band's name, writing music with former drummer Nicke Andersson and the longevity of death metal. An excerpt from the story appears below:

Few bands can boast one of their strongest releases 25 years into their career, but Back To The Front  maintains Entombed A.D.'s well-deserved place as one of the true innovators of Death Metal. Looking back at some of the bands that came up with Entombed in the old Earache Records days – like Napalm Death, Carcass and Bolt Thrower, all of whom still perform in the present day – it's clear that there are a lot of lifers in this genre. What keeps this style of Metal music so relevant and meaningful to Elgstrand and the other guys in Entombed A.D. after so many years?

“I guess we don't know anything better - or else,” he laughs. “I think the general metalhead is in it for life one way or another. It gets in your bloodstream - kinda like getting bit by a vampire! Most of us are also too dumb to quit regardless of conditions.”

Back To The Front was recorded at Studio Bohus in Kungalv, Sweden with producer Roberto Laghi (In Flames, Hardcore Superstar). The cover artwork of the new album was painted by Zbigniew Bielak (Watain, Vader). Back To The Front will be released worldwide through Century Media Records on August 4th in Europe and August 5th in North America.

LG Petrov (vocals) on "Bedlam Attack": “It was the first song we recorded for the album, fitting that it’s the first one out! We had a hard time getting it right due to its somewhat unorthodox arrangement. Took its bloody time before everybody started to really like it, now we do though, and very much so, thank Satan! It's about losing one’s mind in a mental hospital. Obviously you've lost it already since you’re locked in. This is about when you really lose it and realize that you have to get out before things go completely tits up inside your head. All the while knowing deep inside that you will never get out.”
