Former JOURNEY Drummer DEEN CASTRONOVO - “Jail Saved Me, Treatment Changed Me, And God Is Restoring Me”

Bobby Caughron, Senior Editor of XS Rock, recently spoke with former Journey drummer, Deen Castronovo, about his beginnings in music, working with Tony MacAlpine, Marty Friedman, Bad English, Ozzy Osbourne, Steve Vai and others, the equipment he uses on stage, the current music scene, and more.

In the excerpt below, Castronovo discusses his arrest a little more than a year ago, when he was charged with assault and unlawful use of a dangerous weapon among other things, and how his life changed since that incident.

“Well today I’m clean and sober,” says Castronovo. “Coming up on 14 months. As horrendous as all of it was, the incident saved my life. Jail saved me, treatment changed me and God is restoring me. There’s no excuse for what transpired, drugs and alcohol turned me into a monster. Someone that everyone that truly knows me, knows wasn’t the authentic me. I’ve since made amends with my fiancé and we’re both healing and growing together as well as on our own! She knows the real me and knew the police had to intervene or else I would be dead, I owe her my life and love her to death. She has the real me back and it’s amazing.”
