JOE SATRIANI On Possibility Of New CHICKENFOOT Music - "There Might Be Something Coming; I Think There's Hope"

Guitar legend Joe Satriani recently spoke with The GuitCast about his new album, Shockwave Supernova, his early days, and the current status of Chickenfoot featuring Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony and Chad Smith.

With regards to Chickenfoot's future, Satriani says there's hope for some new music from the band:

"I think all my complaining and foot stomping really had an effect, because it was really bothering me and I still, philosophically, just felt like there was a really big disconnect there. I got asked by every single journalist ten times a day, and when I started speaking my mind, I think I realized I rattled some feathers there in the 'Foot camp. I followed it up with just writing some new music, and I sent Sam some stuff, and I was surprised to see him respond so quickly with some creative ideas. And I can happily tell you now that there is a track that is circulating through the band. It's got new drums from Chad on it, it's got new vocals from Sam, and I think Mike is coming at the end of this week to add bass and vocals. So there might be something coming. So, yeah, I think there's hope."

Satriani’s 15th studio album, Shockwave Supernova, has earned the multi-Grammy nominated guitarist his highest US chart position of his career. The album debuts today on the Billboard’s Top 200 Current Albums Chart at #19, the highest debut of his 30-year career, topping his former highest, 1992’s The Extremist, which hit #22 on its debut. In addition, the album also debuted at # 3 on the Billboard Rock Chart and ranks as the highest charting all-instrumental rock album on Billboard’s Top 200 in the soundscan era.

In addition to the US chart success, Satriani also had high debuts in Australia/New Zealand at #23 and in the UK where it entered the chart at #22,making this his highest UK chart position since the self-titled, Joe Satriani in 1995, which reached #21.

BraveWords scribe Aaron Small recently spoke to Satriani about Shockwave Supernova; an excerpt follows in which Joe admitted: “I have noticed over the years, that the person at home working on an album for a couple of months is different than the guy that’s out there on stage every night. The guy out on stage will do things that the home guy doesn’t do, and the longer you stay out on tour, the more you become kind of like ‘the tour animal’.”
