BENEATH THE MASSACRE - Mechanics Of Dysfunction

These are undeniably heady days for death metal fans, but it’s hard to imagine quite how even the genre’s most devoted fans are going to react when they hear this. 2005’s Evidence Of Inequity mini-album certainly suggested that great things were on the way from these young Canadians, but Mechanics Of Dysfunction is so much more than a classy full-length debut. In fact, it’s a quantum leap for the genre as a whole. The most extreme death metal album since Hate Eternal’s King Of All Kings, and the most important one since Nile’s debut, this is absolutely awe-inspiring, groundbreaking stuff from start to finish. Mercilessly complex and inventive, unrelenting to the point of insanity, bursting with sublime, bludgeoning riffs and delivered with a machine-like intensity that will wrench the air from your lungs, Beneath The Massacre are taking death metal to a whole new level, obliterating the competition in the process. Last year was all about the return of the old school masters. This year is all about these gods among men. Surrender now, weaklings!
