DIRTY GLORY - Mind The Gap

Brazilian’s Dirty Glory have that Americanized, ‘80s metal blueprint down to a T on its debut full-length release, Mind The Gap. On its 12 retro-familiar tracks, the band mimics every “hair metal” band you could ever think of; Guns N’ Roses, Skid Row, Bullet Boys, Tesla, Winger, Danger Danger, Firehouse… the list goes on and on. Although the album can be predictable and unoriginal at times, the band’s unashamed brand of metal delivers plenty of entertaining moments as well.

Opener “Sticks And Stones” dons an energetic GN’R vibe and Skid Row’s attitude with vibrant vocal harmonies on the chorus. “Failing The Test” has a gigantic chorus decorated with a dash of Trixster flavors. Cowbell and sleazy guitar riffs greet “Black Lightning.” A punky GN’R vibe introduces “20 Years Of Moving On,” which also includes a raucous chorus and a bluesy, harmonica solo. Throughout the 12 tracks, you’ll constantly find yourself saying, “This sounds like so-and-so.” Mind The Gap is also filled with several skipable ‘80s power ballads (three too many), and in the case of “Every Time I Think About You,” what were you expecting with a title like that? Although Mind The Gap is a decent take on the genre, there’s not enough of the band’s own originality instilled in their sound. However, there are some fun moments on here and If you like this genre, then Dirty Glory is for you.
