FURYON - Lost Salvation

UK hard rockers Furyon’s debut full-length album, Gravitas, was a stellar affair. On its sophomore release, Lost Salvation, the band continues its brand of high-octane rock with ten sturdy tracks. Original guitarist Chris Green (also of Rubicon Cross) is now on Furyon’s roster as a recording musician only. Green played all guitars and co-wrote every song with singer Matt Mitchell on Lost Salvation, and his contribution on the album is nothing short of spectacular. Mitchell’s electrified croon and mega-rock star persona is untouched by most current frontmen today. Every track on Lost Salvation flows extremely well, which consists of a solid rhythm section, soaring vocal harmonies, strong, hooky choruses and blazing guitar solos. Clocking in at 44 minutes, it’s almost the perfect duration for a great rock record.

“All That I Have” opens with a tingling keyboard intro which leads into a slow melodic arrangement with dominant guitars. It gets a little heavier toward the end but it’s not a very explosive opening number as one would expect. But they make up for it with next track “Lost Salvation”, which is a rousing mid-paced chugger with a menacing riff. First single/video “These Four Walls” captures everything this band is about: hooky melodies, soaring choruses with vocal harmonies and fantastic lead guitar work. The rest of the album flows very well with CD-closer “Wiseman” proving to be a great way to end a fantastic hard rock record. It will be interesting to see where Furyon will head with Green as solely a behind-the-scenes studio guitarist. Or maybe this arrangement might work out just fine as it is.
