SALEMS LOTT - Salems Lott EP

Salems Lott is the bastard child of W.A.S.P. and Lizzy Borden. Take a peek at their band photo with the outlandish outfits, pale clown white makeup, and sharp hair that could poke an eye out. They have the quite the visual appearance to be sure, but make no mistake this EP is no joke and their "shock metal" is an entertaining 25-minute roller coaster ride of riffs, snarling vocals, and running solos.

This isn't a form of darker glam metal; but it's speed metal with some thrash elements thrown in. The guitars have a gritty tone perfect for this style of metal and the guys have no problems showing their instrumental prowess with nifty little bass noodling in "Atlas" and the acoustic number which is like a somber stroll under a starry sky with "Twilight Traverse". Lead single "No Choice To Love" is a curveball of sorts as it is the only track to go for the catchy chorus, but that isn't happening with the others as "Smoke And Mirrors" and "S.S. (Sonic Shock)" possess thrash identities with gang shouts and moshing breaks. "Smoke And Mirrors" particularly stands out with real badass guitar in the verse section. Hope these guys can keep the momentum going with a full-length in the future.
